Monarch Motor Co., Ltd., Tokyo, 1952-62

モナークーモーター株式会社

Fujio Murata, who was previously an employee of Meguro, founded Monarch Motors in 1952 selling the Pony Monarch ( ポニーモナーク号 ) and beginning in 1955 the Monarch (モナーク号) brands of motorcycles. These were 4 stroke ohv machines nominally of 150cc, 200cc and 250cc displacement, and at least to begin with used Meguro engines. The company entered many races winning 1st, 3rd, 4th and 7th place in the 1954 Fuji climbing race for example, but finally folded in 1962 as per the "Century of Japanese Motorcycles". The timing is interesting, as it coincides with Meguro's tighter affiliation with Kawasaki beginning in 1960.
