T500-I, or Cobra, or 500/Five

Carburettors

  • Most T500 people know that the MK I had 34mm 'round bowl' carburettors, but there were two types of floats used. The early style had plastic floats (13252-15010), and then at some point Suzuki switched to brass ones. I have not been able to locate a part number for the brass floats (it may have been the same number as for the plastic ones), and the MK II style brass floats are too narrow and so will not fit.
  • The jetting also differed for the early and late MK I, as did the float height (30mm for plastic, and 29mm for brass). The specification sheets normally only list the later settings/jetting etc.. For the early MK I's take a look at the special service bulletin for changes introduced at engine T500-14385 found here as well as the specification service bulletin #11 located at the same link. I've included a photo showing all the bits laid out.
  • I've included a photo of a set of MK I carburettors having brass floats. Of possible interest, the carburettor body is stamped 15011C, rather than just 15010. Whether that means anything or not I'm not sure. The 15011 carburettor body does have the later specification jetting. Just 'click' through the photo stack.
  • In both cases (plastic float or brass float) the MK I carburettors were mounted close to the engine and the oil injector pump cover was 'full' - Suzuki appears to have just cut a chunk out of the covers for MK II and later models having the 32mm style carburettors. The early style of injector pump cover is shown first, followed by the MK II and later style.
  • The plastic cover for the oil lines was dropped with the introduction of the A model, leaving the A and B models looking a bit undressed in the area of the oil injector lines.

The sequence of carburettors seems to be as follows (based on the parts manuals I have access to):
